2.12 San Diego Slewage — WR Greg Childs

In the real world: A patella tendon injury in 2010 pretty much messed up Childs' draft stock. He really didn't recover from that until his Pro Day workout (4.41 40). Couple that speed with his size (6'3", 219 lb.) and you can see the upside. However, durability, drops (concentration/focus) and route running are concerns. Childs says that one reason his senior season was so disappointing was that he tried to return too quickly from the 2010 knee injury. Opinions differ on Childs; USA Today had him ranked #94 overall, but Scouts, Inc. gave him a grade of 44 (meaning they expected him to be a late-round draftee or an undrafted free agent).

In the TUFF world: This is both a homer pick (Todd loves his Vikings) and an upside pick (owing to the size/speed combo Childs offers when healthy). The job situation is promising, too, considering that the Vikes have, at wide receiver, Percy Harvin and Jerome Simpson (the latter will serve a 4-game suspension), then not much beyond them. So why the question mark? Because the Slewage usually take care to handcuff the Pittsburgh running backs, and Chris Rainey (the speedy 5th-rounder from Florida) was on the board. San Diego had no 3rd-round pick (so it's not like Todd could say, "Well, I thought I could get Rainey next round").

4.12 San Diego Slewage — WR LaVon Brazill

In the real world: Ohio University's career leader in receptions and receiving yards, Brazill was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in Round 6. Undersized at 5'10.5", 192, and while some reports claim he has blazing 4.3 speed, his official time of 40 time of 4.48 isn't fast enough to compensate for that lack of size. And the Colts already drafted a better slot receiver/kick returner in T.Y. Hilton (Round 3, 92nd pick).

In the TUFF world: Maybe it's because I wasted a 2nd-rounder two years ago on Brazill's predecessor at Ohio, Taylor Price. Maybe it's because the name reminds me of that hurdler the Bengals picked in 2006, Benny Brazell. But I could name two receivers I would easily have picked over Brazill: Todd, you like Vikings so much, why not take Jarius Wright to handcuff to Greg Childs? And as far as undersized slot receiver/kick returner types go, a number of different sources (USA Today, NFLDraftScout, Pro Football Weekly, National Football Post, Sports Illustrated, Scouts, Inc.) like Joe Adams (Panthers) even better.

4.15 San Diego Slewage — RB Tauren Poole

In the real world: Poole was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Carolina Panthers. His is an interesting job situation: The Panthers traded Mike Goodson to the Oakland Raiders, Jonathan Stewart becomes a free agent next year, and DeAngelo Williams turns 30 next year (and could be a salary cap-related cut if Stewart is re-signed). Yes, the Panthers also signed Mike Tolbert, but they plan to use him as a fullback. Scouts, Inc. said of Poole during East-West Shrine Game practices in January: "Tennessee's Tauren Poole showed the most natural running skills of any running back taking part this week. He sets up blocks well, has good lateral agility and quickness, and showed good feel for cutback lanes. He looks natural carrying the ball and appears to be solidly in the middle rounds."

In the TUFF world: The San Diego Slewage bought this pick from Indy. You can't go wrong with an undrafted free agent running back at this point, especially considering the potential 2013 job situation.
