3.02 Dallas Junglehawgs — RB Cyrus Gray

In the real world: The Chiefs took him in Round 6; they also have Peyton Hillis and Dexter McCluster in their backfield in addition to starter Jamaal Charles. Durability has been an issue for him; just in the past year:
  • Strained his right calf at the Combine
  • Limited for part of 2011 preseason camp with a hamstring injury
  • Suffered a stress fracture in his left shoulder against Kansas and missed the final two games of the 2011 season
  • Was unable to participate in the Senior Bowl after failing his physical
I'm not crazy about his inconsistent production during his final season. In five games last year, he was held under 4 yards per carry. Aren't Big 12 run defenses supposed to be weak?
In the TUFF world: Mike Scott coaches football down in Texas, so maybe he sees something in Gray. who went to Texas A&M. You could think of it as a "homer pick" that way. But inconsistent play and durability concerns might be why the Houston Tethered Swimmers passed on him as a potential handcuff to Charles and McCluster.

  1. Turns out Mike does see something in Gray. He said on May 15: "You're right about Cyrus... I've seen him play once and met him at the state track meet once...He played against Abilene High (a powerhouse most years) and he torched them for over 200 yards and 5 TDs... one great kid. (He) reminds me of Priest Holmes (not saying he will be that good)."
